KPVFC Releases 2007 Annual Report May 29, 2008 - Today the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company released its 2007 annual report. Over the course of the year the volunteers that make up the fire company repsonded to over 650 calls and completed over 11,000 total hours of training. KPVFC & RFC on Rescue Demo April 16, 2008 - The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company and Radnor Fire Company teamed up on Wednesday, April 16th at Archbishop Carroll High School for a rescue / extrication demo. The purpose of the demonstration was to teach students about the dangers of drinking and driving. The mock DUI scenario involved a two car accident with victims pinned inside the vehicles. KPVFC FF Receives Award March 30, 2008 - Congratulations to Mark Thomas for being selected by the Upper Merion Township Fireman's Relief Association to be the co-recipient of the Rotary Club Firefighter of the Year. Mark will receive the award at this year's luncheon. The other recipient is Swedeland's Ryan Gallagher, who occasionally is hanging out at our station assisting his brother Chris. |

KPVFC Wraps Up Rock Bottom Events March 29, 2008 - The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company would like to thank everyone that came out this year to Rock Bottom at the King of Prussia Mall. The contributions we received during the promotion will certainly help the company. This year's events included the tapping of Rock Bottom's Fire Chief Ale, a chili cookoff (won by KPVFC's Gary Grayshaw) and a silent auction. |

KPVFC Recognized as Advanced Rescue Company February 21, 2008 - On Thursday, February 21 the Upper Merion Township Board of Supervisors recognized the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company for its recent certification as an advanced level rescue company. The certification was granted by the PA Department of Health and the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety. Also recognized was Swedeland Fire Company (Station 48) at the operations level. |

KPVFC Hits Rock Bottom... Again Once again the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting a series of events at the Rock Bottom brewery in the King of Prussia Mall. The company will be present every Wednesday in March starting on the 5th at 7:00. March 12th will feature the annual chili cook off from 6:30-8:00. Other events will be posted here as we finalize the details. |

Squad 47 on Pottstown 4th Alarm January 26, 2008 - On Saturday, January 26, Squad 47 was dispatched with a crew of 6 to stand-by at Sanatoga during a 4 alarm fire in Pottstown. The squad was eventually dispatched to relieve a FAST team at the scene. |

Squad 47 on Norristown 2nd Alarm January 24, 2008 - On Thursday evening, Squad 47 was dispatched to stand-by at Station 27-E while companies were operating at a working fire on Norris St. After arriving at the station, Squad 47 was dispatched to the scene for the 2nd alarm. Upon arrival a crew was sent into the B-side exposure to pull ceilings, open the walls and check for extension. |

KPVFC Busy on Christmas Eve Day December 24, 2007 - Just before waking for the annual Santa Run, Station 47 started the day when it was dispatched at 5:11 for an electrical fire outdoors. Engine 47-2 and Squad 47 responded to S Gulph Rd to find an electrical pole sparking at top. Shortly after returning the company was dispatched to a building fire on W DeKalb Pike at the Inn at Valley Forge. Tower 47 and Engine 47-2 arrived on scene first and encountered a heavy odor and haze upon entering the building. Stations 48 (Swedeland), 49 (Swedesburg) and 27 (Norristown) also assisted on the call. Later in the day during the Santa Run, Station 47 was dispatched to a vehicle accident with rescue located in front of Station A at 170 Allendale Rd. Upon clearing the call, units returned to their Santa Run routes and the day concluded without further incidents. |

Busy Day for Station 47 December 20, 2007 - Thursday, December 20th was a busy day for the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company. The day started at 01:32 for a vehicle accident in King of Prussia. Squad 47 established a landing zone for PennStar before proceeding to scene of the single car accident to secure the vehicle. At 13:15 Stations 47 and 49 (Swedesburg) were dispatched to E DeKalb Pike for a 2 car MVA with one entrapped. Upon arrival units found a minivan on its side and determined the best access to the victim was through the roof. Only a half hour later Station 47 was dispatched to a reported fire at the King Prussia Mall. Units quickly determined the source to be an elevator motor. KPVFC's Jenaway on Lecrure Circuit Dr. Bill Jenaway is on the lecture circuit again this fall. Bill recently spoke to the Delaware Volunteer Fireman's Association at their annual conference and in October he spoke to the South Carolina Fire Chief's Association in a main session program entitled "It's Not Your Father's Fire Company Anymore". He will also present to the Pennsylvania State Fireman's Association at their conference and recently spoke at Firehouse EXPO on programs involving Recruitment and Retention. Bill includes a number of examples in both programs of the operations of the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company which helped us last year in securing our re-accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. |

William Daywalt Sr. Honored by the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia September 11, 2007 - On Tuesday, September 11, 2007, the National Liberty Museum presented an award for valor to the family of William C. Daywalt Sr. for his heroic actions on the night of December 22, 2006. On this evening, a fire occurred in Bill's own home and with his quick actions his family members escaped the fire with minimal injuries. However, due to the intensity of the fire, Bill sustained extensive burns to his body. These injuries ultimately led to his passing. This award also acknowledges Bill's 35 year career as a volunteer fire fighter and his desire to serve his community of Upper Merion Township. He also served as the department's Chief of Administration. Accepting the award on his behalf was his son and current Fire Chief of the Department William C. Daywalt Jr. Several of Bill Sr.'s peers were in attendance in his honor during the award ceremony. |

Station 47 on Apartment Fire August 28, 2007 - Station 47 was dispatched to an apartment fire on W DeKalb Pike. Chief 47 (Daywalt) went on scene confirming a working fire in a 5th floor apartment. One occupant was removed from an adjacent apartment. |

Station 47 on House Fire August 7, 2007 - At 01:39 on August 7, Station 47 was dispatched to the intersection of Henderson Rd & Brownlie Rd for a reported house fire. Asst. Chief 47-2 (Ross) went on scene confirming a working fire. Squad 47 laid a supply line from the hydrant, put the first lines into service and conducted the primary search of the residence. Engine 47-1 arrived on scene and was responsible for ventilation. Stations 48 (Swedeland), 49 (Swedesburg) and 53 (Lower Providence) were among the other companies that responded. |

KPVFC Wins Fire Prevention Award July 30, 2007 - The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that it is this year's recipient of the 2nd place award for fire prevention. The Chief Robert W. Little Jr. Memorial Fire Safety Education Award, established in 1982, is presented to the top nine fire companies / departments, who in the opinion of the Awards Committee, have done an outstanding job of providing fire safety education programs to the citizens of their communities. KPVFC has won this award for the past 11 years. The award will be presented at this year's F.A.S.P. State Convention. |

KPVFC Member Wins Award July 30, 2007 - KPVFC member Danielle Gray will be awarded the 2007 Hereda/Terrini Jr. Firefighter Award by the Firemen's Association of State of Pennsylvania. The Hereda/Terrini Jr. Firefighter Award is presented annually to an individual who in the opinion of the Awards Committee has illustrated outstanding leadership qualities and commitment to the fire service in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The award will be presented at this year's F.A.S.P. State Convention. |

Station 47 on House Fire February 4, 2007 - At 21:06 the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a house fire in its first due coverage area on Gunport Rd. Upon arrival Engine 47-1 found heavy smoke banked down to the floor and pushing out the front door. The crew stretched an 1-3/4" line and made a quick knock of the fire while Tower 47 opened the roof and ventilated the building. |

KPVFC on Bridgeport Apartment Fire February 3, 2007 - Shortly after 5:00 PM Bridgeport fire companies (31 & 32) were dispatched for a building fire at the Hunter Hill Apartments on 8th St. KPVFC Assistant Chief 47-1 (J. Gallagher) was in the area and reported fire from the 3rd floor. Within minutes Engine 47-1 was dispatched as the FAST team and responded with a crew of four. The fire was upgraded and Lower Providence (53) responded as the next FAST team. The crew on Engine 47-1 was put to work conducting secondary searches and securing utilities. |

KPVFC Trains on MSA Packs January 23, 2007 - On Tuesday, January 23, the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company received training covering the use of our new MSA air packs. The new packs are equipped with an emergency bail-out harness to be used when fire fighters are unable to exit a building fire any other way. John Major of The Fire Store led the training at a local business park in King of Prussia. Fire fighters took turns learning how to rapidly deploy the device, anchor it and then make a quick, safe descent. |

KPVFC on Berwyn Building Fire January 12, 2007 - At quarter past 1 P.M. on Friday, January 12th KPVFC was “special” called to assist Berwyn Fire Co. (Chester County Sta. 2) for a working building fire in the Easttown Township section of their local. Due to a lack of engine companies on the street, Assistant 2 (Berwyn I.C.) requested KPVFC for an engine to assist. Engine 47-1 from Station 47-A responded with eight volunteers including Chief 47. On arrival the engine chauffer staged the rig and everybody went to work. The crew split into 3 teams and assisted first-in crews with additional ventilation, ground ladders, overhaul and opening up. Squad 47 also handled a transfer to Chester County Station 3 (Paoli) with 4 additional personnel. Both the engine and squad were available and back in the township by 15:30. |

William C. Daywalt, Sr. Laid to Rest January 3, 2007 - On Wednesday, January 3, 2007, the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company laid to rest Chief of Administration William C. Daywalt, Sr. Chief Daywalt passed away as a result of injuries suffered in a fire at his own residence on December 22, 2006. A full honors line of duty death ceremony was conducted, with Fire Company Chaplain, Rev. Brian Henderson officiating. Over 800 persons honored Chief Daywalt, with their attendance at the memorial and service, prior to the funeral procession. The outpouring of concern, spiritual and material actions has been overwhelming. In addition, over 50 fire companies from the mid-Atlantic region participated in the services. The officers and members of the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company wish to thank those emergency service agencies, businesses, and individuals who participated in the tribute to Chief Daywalt, offered services, and contacted us to share your personal and organizational thoughts and concerns. Tower 47 Dedicated to W. C. Daywalt, Sr. January 2, 2007 - The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company has proudly dedicated Tower 47 in memory of former assistant chief, William C. Daywalt, Sr. A bronze plaque bearing his name will be mounted above the pump panel on the truck. This is the first truck to be dedicated to a former member of the company. |

Station 47 on I-76 Rescue December 16, 2006 - Shortly before 3:00 AM on Saturday, December 16, Station 47 was dispatched for a vehicle accident with entrapment on the exit ramp from I-76 W/B to Rt. 202 N/B. Rescue 47 responded from Station A with a crew of six and arrived on scene to find a heavily damaged 4-door sedan. Asst. Chief 47-1 (J. Gallagher) had command as the Rescue's crew stabilized the vehicle and put multiple hydraulic tools into service. Squad 47 arrived and charged a line for fire protection. Due to the heavy amount of damaged on the driver's side, the rear door and B-post had to be removed in order to gain access to the driver's door and ultimately the patient. The crews from both trucks then assisted medics from 317 (Lafayette) with patient removal. Engine 47-1 secured a landing zone for patient transport. |

Busy Early Morning for KPVFC December 8, 2006 - The morning started around 01:30 when a car collided with a traffic light standard at the intersection of Wills Blvd. & Mall Blvd. The P.D. arrived right after the crash to find a single vehicle accident with 1 pinned inside. They immediately called for the rescue response and a medical helicopter. Rescue 47 arrived first with 4 volunteers and went to work with step cribbing and the hydraulic tools. Squad 47 arrived next with four additional volunteers and provided a protection line and hazard control. The patient was extricated within 10 minutes of the Rescue’s arrival and was transported to a city trauma center. Around 05:15 the company was dispatched for wires burning on a utility pole at the Sunoco Station on S. Gulph Rd. Squad 47 handled the run and notified PECO energy of the situation prior to clearing the scene. Just as the members were hoping the morning would calm down the company was dispatched for a fire alarm activation at the Marquis Apartments - Brandywine Bldg. Deputy 47 (Rudzinski Sr.) arrived within minutes and found a heavy smoke condition on the 3rd floor. The building fire response brought Engine companies 48 & 49, Ladder companies 31 & 48, and Rescue companies 49 & 27 (RIT). Squad 47 arrived first and found heavy fire showing from one apartment on side “A”. Due to the apartment on a lower floor and the proximity of the stair tower, the crew began to stretch the 300 foot 2-1/2 inch line directly from the rig. Engine 47-1 arrived shortly after the Squad and helped complete the stretch. A crew of five from both engines entered the fire apartment and knocked the fire as searches were also completed. Engine 49-2’s crew provided the back-up line while Ladder Company 48 completed searches in the other apartments on the fire floor. The remaining units filled in to complete the other necessary tasks. Deputy 47 had the command while Assistant 47-1 (J. Gallagher) had operations on the fire floor. Lafayette Ambulance also provided the EMS support. All units cleared the scene by 09:30. |

KPVFC on 4-Alarm Building November 20, 2006 - King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched with Stations 48 (Swedeland) and 49 (Swedesburg) for a working building fire on the 1200 block of DeKalb Pike around 21:00 on Monday, November 20. Engine 47-1 was the first engine on scene and encountered heavy fire upon arrival. Additional companies from Bridgeport, Norristown, Conshohocken and Spring Mill were dispatched to the scene before the fire was brought under control. |

KPVFC Receives CFAI Accreditation September 14, 2006 - The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company received Re-Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) for meeting the criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program. The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company is one of 116 agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and CPSE. King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company is the first volunteer fire company to receive this recognition and was originally accredited in 2000. Storm Tears Through Upper Merion August 26, 2006 - Starting late in the evening on Friday, August 25 storms tore through the King of Prussia area causing an extensive amount of damage. The KPVFC responded to close to 50 calls including responses for water rescues, electrical fires and trees into buildings. By early Saturday morning it was evident that greatest extent of damage occurred along South Gulph road and the Bob White Farms section of Upper Merion. |

Giuliani, Weldon Speak at KPVFC August 23, 2006 - On Wednesday, August 23 Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York City and Congressman Curt Weldon spoke at King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company's Allendale Road station. Both men spoke about America's response to terrorism and the importance of the volunteer fire service. Weldon said, "The job of government is to help those volunteers to continue to be able to volunteer." When asked if he had plans to run for president, Giuliani said, "That's not something I'm thinking about now." |

KPVFC to Recieve Fire Safety Awards The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that it will be receiving multiple awards for for fire safety and prevention at this year's state convention. The company will be receiving the first place Robert W. Little Jr. Memorial Fire Safety Education Award for Division A. This award is presented to fire companies that have done an outstanding job of providing fire safety education programs to the citizens of their communities. Fire Prevention Coordinator, Robin Ross, will be receiving the William B. Phillips Memorial Fire Safety Educator Award. This award recognizes FASP members who have done an outstanding job of promoting Fire Safety Education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Both awards will be presented on September 29, 2006 during the 127th Annual Convention of the FASP. |

Storm Brings KPVFC Into Action July 18, 2006 - A storm moving through southeastern Pennsylvania swept across Upper Merion Township and brought all three companies into action. Numerous reports of wires down, electrical fires and other weather related calls led to a steady stream of runs over the next two days. Lafayette Ambulance (317) relocated one of its rigs to KPVFC's Beidler Rd station as its station was left without power. |

KPVFC's President to Speak at Firehouse Expo Our own Dr. Bill Jenaway is hot on the speaking trail this summer, having just completed presentations at the Minnesota Fireman's Convention, Michigan Fireman's Convention and Tennessee Fire Chief's Convention. He spoke on recruitment and retention at all three conferences. Bill will be at Firehouse Expo in Baltimore, where he will speak on Friday morning (Safe use of POV's), and again on Saturday morning (Recruitment & Retention and Developing Statewide Strategies for the Future). The "Statewide" program will discuss the impact of Pennsylvania's SR 60 Commission, which Bill chaired. In August, Dr. Jenaway travels to the Canadian Fire Chiefs Conference to speak on Community Outreach by the Fire Department, followed by the keynote speech to the Fireman's Association of the State of New York, and finishing up the summer at the North Carolina Fireman's Association with Recruitment and Retention. Many of Bill's slides and vignettes come from his 25 years in the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company. |

KPVFC Responds to Fireworks Incident July 4, 2006 - Following the grand finale of the Upper Merion Township fireworks display, an errant fireworks shell landed in a crowd and detonated on the ground. Chief 47 and D/C 317 (Lafayette) immediately established command while the UMPD secured the scene and ensured that onlookers were removed from the area. With three ambulances already on scene another five were dispatched and Stations 48 (Swedeland) and 49 (Swedesburg) established a landing zone at the Valley Forge Shopping Center. Members from KPVFC quickly assisted Lafayette Ambulance crews in locating victims and establishing a triage area. Firefighters from Swedeland, Swedesburg and Bridgeport who were attending the display also aided in response to the accident. KPVFC Assists with Local Flood Relief Over the past week the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company has been busy assisting neighboring communities which were greatly impacted by the recent flooding. The company's fire police have spent numerous hours on roadways redirecting traffic around areas impacted by the flooding. Although the neighboring boroughs of Norristown and Bridgeport experienced flooding with the Schuylkill River spilling over its banks, the flooding was not as bad as anticipated. |

KPVFC Hosts Fire Fighter Stand Down The King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company and IAFF joined thousands of fire departments across the United States and Canada for the 2006 International Fire Fighter Safety Stand Down on June 21, 2006. Starting June 20, with special safety training on the regular company training night, our fire fighters suspended all non-emergency activity to focus on fire fighter safety. On June 21, 2006 President Bill Jenaway instructed the Stand Down training. Other companies in attendance included Swedeland VFC (48), Swedesburg VFC (49) and Lafayette Ambulance (317). |

KPVFC Installs Smoke Detectors in Local Homes On Tuesday, June 20, Chief Bill Daywalt and firefighters from the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company installed new smoke detectors in local homes. Every year the fire company installs between 50 and 75 smoke detectors free of charge. |

KPVFC Wins Awards at Lansdowne's Housing On May 21 the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company attended Lansdowne's (Bucks Co. Station 19) triple housing. KPVFC brought home the following trophies: 1st Place Best Appearing & Equipped Tower Ladder, 1st Place Best Appearing & Chief's Vehicle and 2nd Place Best Appearing & Equipped Tower Ladder. |
