KPVFC Runs Another Line

Saturday, April 14, 2012 As some of the members were attending Fire Fighter Sweeney’s funeral the rest of the company was dispatched for the dwelling fire response to the 400 block of King of Prussia Road. The assignment called for station 47 and Engine 48 (Swedeland). Chief 48 (C. Camarda) arrived with smoke showing from a 1 story detached garage that was approximately 15 feet from the residence. Engine 47-1 (M. Keszczyk) arrived 1st due and placed a 1.75” hoseline in service. The crew was able to make easy entry to the garage before the springs failed and found an automobile on fire. (Note the pike pole propping open the door in the picture) Since the 9-1-1 dispatcher instructed the resident NOT TO OPEN the garage door to prevent fueling the fire, it was quickly extinguished. The dispatcher’s instructions in combination with the fire company’s response prevented more serious damage to the garage, or worse, the residence. The remainder of the apparatus were eventually ordered to continue in at “reduced speed” and assisted with overhaul.
