Tuesday, June 19, 2012 As the volunteers were in the midst of their weekley Tuesday evening drill the “pre-alert” sounded for a building fire on Church Road in Swedeland’s 1st due response area of Upper Merion Township. The response called for the KPVFC to assist station 48 with an engine company. Engine 47-1 (O’Donnell) quickly took up from drill on 8th Avenue and responded with a crew of 5 fire fighters. The engine arrived shortly after Ladder 48 and found fire smoldering in the roof at the John Middleton Tobacco Company. The KPVFC crew worked with the members from station 48 by using circular saws to cut the roof, expose, and ultimately extinguish pockets of fire. All units cleared the scene in about an hour.
