Small Fire in the Local

Friday, July 6, 2012 Just as the 11 o’clock news aired the pre-alert also sounded for a commercial building fire on Vandenburg Drive in Upper Merion Township. The response called for the KPVFC as well as Quint 31 from Bridgeport Fire Company #1. Initial reports from the caller reported a fire in one of the rooms in the building. Tower 47 arrived and Lieutenant DiSanto assumed the “Vandenburg Road Command” while reporting a smoke condition inside the building. Due to the size of the building and unknown extent of fire conditions the confirmed fire procedure was dispatched bringing Ladder 48 (Swedeland Fire Co.), Rescue 49 (Swedesburg Fire Co.), Rescue 27 (Fairmount Fire Co. of Norristown) and Lafayette Ambulance. The crew from Tower 47 found an exhaust machine for their manufacturing process with the motor burned out. An employee from the business used a dry chemical extinguisher and put the fire out. The machine was moved outside and crews set-up multiple exhaust fans to ventilate the large structure. Units on scene included Engine 47-1, Tower 47, Utility 47, Quint 31, Ladder 48, Rescue 49 and F.M. 56-1. All units cleared around midnight.
