Around 7:00 PM on Friday, July 27, 2012, the Lower Merion Fire Department was summoned to the 2200 block of N. Stone Ridge Lane in the Villanova section of the township for a dwelling fire. Details are still uncertain, but we understand the following actions had taken place. Arriving shortly after dispatch Fire Chief Tom Hayden of the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore, without regard for his own safety, affected a rescue of an elderly occupant still trapped in the residence. Tom was assisted by Bob Weber, Assistant Chief of Narberth Ambulance, who both worked together to bring the female to safety.
Chief Hayden, Assistant Chief Weber, as well as the rescued occupant, were transported to local hospitals for unspecified injuries. The officers and members of the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company wish to express our thoughts and prayers to Tom, Bob and their families, as well as to all those affected and hope for speedy recoveries. We also want to take this time to ask all of our followers to keep these folks in your prayers. As you hear all too often fires are destructive and deadly. In this case a resident of Lower Merion has her life spared by the courageous actions of two emergency responders. Tom and Bob, we congratulate you both on what was a heroic rescue.
