Small Fire on Crossfield

Sunday, July 29, 2012 Sunday started for the KPVFC when they were dispatched for a dwelling fire on Crossfield Road in the Candlebrook section of town. Neighbors to the dispatched address reported hearing smoke alarms sounding and visible smoke from the chimney. Assistant Chief 47-4 (Thomas) arrived on scene and, in addition to the neighbors report, found smoke inside the dwelling that was obvious by looking through the windows during his 360 degree size-up. Tower 47 arrived first and immediately forced entry while stretching a 1-3/4” hoseline. Engine 47-1 arrived and laid a 5” supply line from the hydrant to the scene for the Tower. The crew from Tower 47 found a smoldering fire in the basement and finished extinguishment while they worked with the engine crew to check for extension. The crew from Engine 47-1 also conducted searches for life throughout the house, but it was learned the homeowners were on vacation. After no fire extension was found and the house ventilated from smoke all personnel cleared the scene within the hour. Units also making the response include Engine 47-2 and Quint 31 (Bridgeport Fire Company).
