Pin Job on the Pike & Cover-up for Firemen's Convention

Thursday, September 27, 2012 Around 2pm, the KPVFC responded to a vehicle accident with entrapment on the Pennsylvania Turnpike westbound off ramp to the Valley Forge Interchange. Original reports from Montgomery County dispatch stated four occupants were trapped in the vehicle. Based off this report, the next due rescue company, Rescue 49, was dispatched to assist. Rescue 47 and Squad 47 arrived simultaneously to find a “box truck” style vehicle on its side. It was found that only two occupants were trapped with minor injuries and were standing in the cab awaiting removal. Crews cut the windshield and the victims self extricated. While the Rescue and Squad were operating on the turnpike an additional crew at the Allendale Road station responded to Station 48’s zone (Swedeland Fire Co.) to assist at 2300 Renaissance Boulevard for a building fire. Crews were investigating an odor of smoke and Engine 47-1 cleared from the scene shortly after arriving. The crews on the turnpike also cleared while units were operating on Renaissance Boulevard.

Assistant Chief Thomas with a crew of five on Squad 47 assisted the Norristown Fire Department while they were hosting festivities related to the Pennsylvania Firemen’s Convention. The crew from Squad 47 helped maintain fire suppression coverage to Norristown Borough for six hours during the evening. The day for the KPVFC also included a fire alarm activation at Costco Wholesale around 7pm and concluded with an unknown type fire in the Sweetbriar section of town at 11pm.
