On Friday, June 5, Station 47 and neighboring companies were alerted to respond to the unit block of W 8th Avenue for smoke in the building. Engine 47-1 (Lt. Griffith Jr.) arrived on location with Chief 47 (J. Gallagher), followed closely by Tower 47 (Lt. Durland). Given the report, the assignment was upgraded to a full building fire response bringing additional resources to the scene. Crews investigated and found a fan motor had burned out in the rear of the building which was the cause of the smoke. With no signs of fire, no other fire services were needed and the assignment was scaled back. All 47 units cleared the scene in just over an hour.
Other companies responding on the call included Bridgeport Fire Co. #1 (Station 31), Goodwill Fire Company (Station 32), Radnor Fire Company (Delco Station 15), Lower Providence Fire Department (Station 53), Swedeland Fire Company (Station 48), and Lafayette Ambulance Squad (Station 317).
